Hola! We are a Costa Rican/American couple living in Mexico and serving with at-risk children and families. We are known as YWAMers- missionaries that are part of the organization Youth With a Mission (YWAM.) We were married on April 27, 2013 in beautiful Jacó, Costa Rica. Both of us grew up in Christian families and made decisions to gives our lives to Jesus at an early age. We have 2 beautiful daughters who were born in Johannesburg, South Africa. We each have our own story of how we got to where we are- but now we’re on this journey of faith together. So who are we? Two people who love Jesus and love kids, following God wherever he leads.
Nationality: Costa Rica
Serving with YWAM since: January 2008
I grew up in Liberia, Costa Rica. In 2008 I did my Discipleship Training School with YWAM in San Jose and for our outreach we went to the Caribbean coast of Costa Rica and Venezuela. At this time, something began to stir within me for children at risk, as we helped in many ministries that work with street children and children who had high-risk family situations. When I returned from my outreach, I continued to pray to ask God what to do with the passion he was giving me for children. As a result I applied for the children at risk school in 2009. After the classroom training, I spent several months in Bogota, Colombia to work with street kids, as well as served in Jacó, Costa Rica to work with kids in poverty. The next few years were spent in training others in the DTS is Costa Rica, and helping run the children at risk school in both Costa Rica and Mexico. I led an outreach for the Children at Risk school to Southern Africa (South Africa, Lesotho, Mozambique) in 2011/2012 and that’s when God put a passion in my heart for Africa and a desire to return there some day.
In 2013 I took a year away from the ministry to do a year-intensive tourism course to become a licensed tour guide, which I completed in early 2014. Not only am I passionate about making disciples for Jesus, I’m passionate about God’s creation and being good stewards of the earth.
Serving with YWAM since: January 2011
I grew up wanting to be a missionary-teacher. I studied bilingual education at Texas A&M, and right after graduation moved to Honduras to serve as a missionary. I joined YWAM a few years later, and have served children at risk my entire career as a missionary. I believe that every child deserves to hear about Jesus, and I feel called to disciple children through education. There have been several ministries that I have served with that have helped to shape and mold me: living with teen girls in a children’s home, helping pioneer a ministry for children involved in human trafficking, church planting, teaching in a Christian school, and leading a sidewalk Sunday School program for kids. Meeting and marrying the man of my dreams, who is also a missionary passionate about kids and youth has only made this adventure with God better. And now we are on this journey with our beautiful, South African born daughters who add sunshine and joy to our lives.
